Convert a Photo to JPG for an Online Form

Output is JPG and the background is kept as is. Choose any photo, including iPhone HEIC, set the pixels and KB the form asks for, and download a standard JPEG.

1Photo requirements

Works as is: 2×2 inch (600×600 px), white background, JPG. If the form states its own rules, paste them below and they fill in automatically.

Use this when the form gives inches, cm or mm; it converts to pixels at the DPI above.

The max is counted as 1000 bytes per KB and the min as 1024, so the file passes either way a site counts KB.

Send it to others and they get the same settings (the photo is never included)

2Choose a photo and position it

Drop a photo here, or

No ID photo needed: a phone selfie or any ordinary photo works. It centers on your face, crops to the required size and changes the background.

When taking it: stand in front of a plain light wall with even light and no shadows; hold the phone at eye level about an arm’s length away and include your shoulders; face the camera with ears and eyebrows visible, no hat. JPG, PNG, WebP or iPhone HEIC.

3Create and check

Why renaming the file doesn’t work

Renaming photo.png to photo.jpg leaves the content as PNG, and upload checks read the file header. The checks here confirm from the header that the result is a real JPEG.

iPhone photos

iPhones save HEIC by default, which many forms reject. The photo is converted to JPEG in your browser before the other steps.

FAQ

What does "invalid file format" mean on an upload form?

Usually the form only accepts JPG and you uploaded PNG or HEIC, or the extension was changed without converting. Converting to a real JPG fixes it.

Does converting reduce quality?

The highest quality under your KB limit is used; with no limit, 95% quality, which looks the same to the eye.
